Wedding Parties and Bridal Showers

Friends and relatives will want to celebrate with you and will no doubt honor you with dinners, showers and other parties. Your job in all of this celebrating will be to have fun, be gracious and show your appreciation by writing thank you notes and perhaps bringing a small gift to your host or hostess.

What kind of parties will you likely attend?

Bridal showers will head the list. This presents an opportunity for friends and families to meet as new friends or renew old friendships. Bridal showers have a long history and tradition and have always been held for the purpose of helping the new couple furnish their home. Traditionally showers are hosted by a close friend, your maid of honor, cousin or co-worker. If you are the lucky recipient of multiple showers, try to insure that wedding party members are not included in all of them. Weddings can be expensive for participating friends. Don’t add to their burden by putting their names on every guest list.

Bridesmaids’ Party hosted by the bride is a thoughtful and fun way to thank those female friends who are lending you support for your wedding. If all of the female attendants don’t know each other, the party - a luncheon, a dinner or a tea - is a good way for them to become better acquainted. You may wish to combine this with last minute dress fittings. Growing in popularity is a spa day in which you treat your female attendants to a day of beauty and pampering.

Wedding Day Brunch/Breakfast is a good way for out of town guest to kick off wedding day festivities. Neither the bride nor her family or the groom’s family are expected to attend the brunch. It is assumed that you are feverishly engaged in last minute preparations. You should ask a friend who is not in the wedding to act as host or hostess for you at the brunch and greet those in attendance. It gives out of town guests something to do and helps them to confirm the locations and times of the remaining day’s events.
